Wisdom is the principal thing.
On Thursday we stayed overnight in Wilderness, an area just outside of George on the Garden Route. The next morning we walked down to the beach and spent a couple hours there until we had to hit the road. It was very hard for everyone to leave the beach as it was one of the most beautiful beaches we'd ever been to.

Then, we drove to Plettenberg Bay to stay with our friends David and Moira. We're with them until mid next week. David and Moira took us under their wing back when we first moved to Cape Town in 1995. We lived in the same neighborhood and they opened their home and hearts to us and made life in a new city much easier for us.
David and Moria bought a plot of land moved out of Cape Town seven years ago. They've built a home and cultivated the land so that it now has two ponds, local flora, like proteas and keurboom (trees), guinea fowls, moor hens, sun birds and duiker (tiny deer). Their property is beautiful and peaceful. We've been spending a lot of time just sitting on their veranda. I realized as I was prepping photos for this post that I don't have one of them together, so for now you get to see Dave and their home. I'll get more pics of Dave and Moria and their home soon.

Yesterday afternoon (Saturday the 28th of January) we went for a quick drive to the Tsitsikamma National Park and down into Nature's Valley. The area is covered with wild protea and you descend into a deep valley which becomes ancient african forest populated with 800 year old yellow wood trees, iron wood, mild wood and so on. We did not do any bushwhacking, though!

Once we came through the forrest we arrived at Natures Valley beach, another beautiful place. The sky was threatening to storm, but never did as we walked along the beach. The kids even found an octopus in one of the tidal pools.

Keeping In Touch
By AnneMary Hirschler on 29 Jan 2012 at about 12:41.Hello Gastins,
LauraAnne and I were just stunned at the natural beauty of South Africa. God has certainly created some amazing things. We're glad that you're all enjoying your trip; you all look so nice and healthy! LauraAnne will be writing Riley soon; she misses her and wonders if Riley has tried any surfing yet? Or seen any unusual sea creatures?
Take Care,
Thank you for sharing your trip with us,
God Bless,
AnneMary and LauraAnne
